Kabayan Center Philippines (KCP) was founded in 1985 by Dr. Angel T. Ramos as an Organization of Filipinos working and living in Hong Kong.
The Organization catered to the various needs of the Filipino community in Hong Kong, including legal assistance as well as a support center for migrant workers in distress.
In 1988, KCP began to teach basic livelihood courses to its members such as Computer Lessons, Dressmaking and Culinary Arts, in the hope of equipping overseas workers the necessary skills as future returning residents in the Philippines.
The Organization enjoyed steady growth and by 1990 KCP Holdings was established as the corporate arm of Kabayan Center Philippines.
In 1991, when the Canadian government imposed the tedious requirements of the Live-in Caregiver Program, KCP initiated the introduction of the first ever Caregiver Training Program in Hong Kong and in the Philippines, and saw the successful deployment of Caregivers to Canada
In late 1991, KCP Holdings became one of the recipients of the coveted Philippine Presidential awards as “Outstanding Filipino Organizations Overseas” under President Corazon Aquino.
In 1996, KCP Holdings established and registered with the Hong Kong Education Bureau the Philippine International School and the South Bend International School (SBIS), to cater to local secondary school Students who could not be absorbed into the regular stream of government schools. In order to qualify for government regulations regarding schools offering international curricula, SBIS was re-named Capstone College in 2006.
Since the College's inception, its full secondary 3,4,5, and 6 courses have produced students who have moved on as successful professionals with careers in business, arts, and law.
In late 1996, Dr. Angel T. Ramos became one of the Philippine Presidential Awardees as “Outstanding Filipino Overseas” under then President Fidel V. Ramos.
The Ateneo de Manila University’s Ugat Foundation and the ABS-CBN Philippine Network recognized the achievements of Dr. Ramos and his KCP Holdings, and became the awardee as “Bayaning Filipino sa Taon ng Sentinaryo” (Filipino Heroes of the Century) Awards.
In 2006, the Hong Kong Education Bureau as well as the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessments Authority qualified Capstone students to sit for the prestigious UK-based IGCSE international examinations.
In the same year, the Bintang Nusantara School was registered with the Education Bureau to cater to the secondary school requirements of many Indonesian Contract Workers (BMI) in Hong Kong, who were desirous of pursuing their education away from their home country. The SMP (Junior High School) and the SMA (Senior High School) Programs were opened to qualify Indonesian Students to sit for their Ujian Nasional (National Examinations) conducted twice a year in Hong Kong. In both examinations for SMP and SMA, Bintang Nusantara registered an overwhelming 99% passing rate, which then qualified them to enroll for post-secondary courses in Hong Kong, or from their home country.
The introduction of the Grade 11 and 12 curriculum into Philippine Schools started the joint cooperation with the University of Luzon’s College of Education in 2011. Hand in hand with KCP Holdings, the University of Luzon started to offer its Grade7 Teacher Training Program to many Filipino Teachers who were expected to be hired as professional teachers once they become returning residents in their home country. The following Programs for Teachers soon emerged:
The vision of seeing a humble contract worker emerge as a University Graduate, a LET Passer, a Registered Professional Teacher can truly be unimaginable. This necessitated the establishment of the joint cooperation with University of Luzon on the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Entrepreneurship (BSBA Entrepreneurship) Program (HK Course Registration No. 273135) - the missing link in the vision and advocacy of the KCP Holdings for Filipino, Indonesian Overseas workers, and other Hong Kong residents.
In late 2015, the KCP consultants Macau Representative Office of KCP Holdings was established introducing the various programs of KCP Holdings. Recently, satellite representative offices in Singapore, and in Seoul, South Korea are in the works, offering Lecture/Seminar/Workshop types of education.
